Cleanopolis VR is a game that students can play to learn more about the environment and fight against climate change. The game does not have to be played with 3D technology, but it will enhance the experience. Cleanopolis has both an Android and iOS version. 

Learning Objectives

Students will:

  • Be able to experience virtual reality while planning the Cleanopolis game. 
  • Understand what climate change is and how they can help lessen CO2 emissions. 

Vocabulary

  1. Virtual Reality: Virtual reality is an artificial environment that is created with software and presented to the user in such a way that the user suspends belief and accepts it as a real environment. 

Pre-planning

  • Download the Cleanopolis App on your device and then on your student devices. 
  • Decide whether or not to obtain VR (Gyroscope for iOS, Google Cardboard, 3D glasses Android) for the students. 
  • Watch the video on Cleanopolis.

Captain Clean needs your help. Your mission if you accept it is to fight against climate change and make sure the city of Cleanopolis get rid of its CO2 cloud.

Assisted by your faithful companion named Tobby, explore the 3D city and discover its districts. They shelter some mini-games, some quizzes and even a movie theatre! Thanks to your actions, you will reduce the CO2 emissions and beautify the city. 
For an even more immersive experience and a wow effect, play with 3D glasses!

Accommodations

Steps

  1. Introduce the game of CLeanopolis when students are studying the environment. The game will also introduce Virtual Reality if the students have 3D glasses. 
  2. Show the video Cleanopolis to the students. 
  3. After the students have played the game, have a discussion with them about environmental changes and how they can affect plants and animals. 
    1. What did they learn as they went through the game? 
    2. How can they and their families make personal changes to help the environment?

  • The students can write a short story about Captain Clean and how to protect the environment.

  • The students while playing the game will think about the following standards:

    • 3-LS4-4 Make a claim about the merit of a solution to a problem caused when the environment changes and the types of plants and animals that live there may change. 

    • 3-LS3-2 Use evidence to support the explanation that traits can be influenced by the environment.
