Overview

Students will use Seesaw's built-in audio recording, drawing and caption tools to reflect on what they've learned or explain how they got their answer.

Seesaw empowers students to independently document their learning with built-in creative tools, and provides an authentic audience for their work.

Seesaw gives families an immediate and personalized window into their child’s school day, and makes communication with teachers seamless. Seesaw helps capture the learning process, not just the end result.

There are fourteen lessons that will take 5-20 minutes each. 

Learning Objectives

Students will:

  • Be able to use Seesaw to journal about their learning and themselves.
  • Be able to take pictures, draw and write.
  • ​Be able to comment with using the record audio feature.

Vocabulary

  1. Comment: To comment is to let someone know how you feel or what you think.

Pre-planning

  • Create your Seesaw teacher account and first class.

  • Watch the video tutorial on how to create an account. 

  • Install Seesaw on student devices. Get the Seesaw Class app.

  • Bookmark the Seesaw website on your computer. 

  • Print your class poster so your students can sign in. Hang it in your classroom. To find your poster, sign in as a teacher, and tap ‘Student Code’ in the bottom right.

  • Get ready to teach your students about Seesaw.

  • Read through the Seesaw Student Challenge (page 5)

Steps

  1. Student Challenge: Lessons 1 - 14 (each lesson is 5-20 mins)

  2. The teacher will have the students start with lesson one and work their way through to 14. The students can do one or more than one lesson at a time. It depends on the classroom timeframe.  Each link below will walk the students through the lesson.

  3. The focus will be on lessons 1-7 = 35-50 minutes max (do these at your pace).

  • Lesson 8 - Introduce the microphone and adding voice.
  • Lesson 9 - Practice adding a writing sample to Seesaw. 
  • Lesson 10 - Introduce the drawing tool. 
  • Lesson 11 - Introduce Wow! Work! 
  • Lesson 12 - Reflect on learning: Math exit ticket. 
  • Lesson 13 - Record each child’s goals.
  • Lesson 14 - Feedback to classmates.

  • Teachers can use this tool to assess their students on all topics. Have the students take a picture of their physical work. Teachers can then assess and provide feedback.
  • Here is an example of an exit ticket.

CONTENT AREA RESOURCES

ELA

  • Students can take a picture of their writing and drawings on their writing paper.

  • Have them read their writing aloud using the recording feature.

Integrated Arts

  • Journal all of the art projects they do through the year. Use the audio feature to record their voice explaining the art.

Math

  • Students use the drawing feature to solve math problems. Then have the students submit the work with audio recording explaining their solution.

Science

  • Use Seesaw to journal with images, drawings, and audio as they learn the scientific process.

Social Studies

  • Use the drawing and image features to journal about family and community.
